About Notre-Dame
Notre-Dame de Paris is a medieval Catholic cathedral located on the Île de la Cité in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. Construction began in 1163 under Bishop Maurice de Sully and was largely completed by 1260. The cathedral is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.
On April 15, 2019, a devastating fire severely damaged the cathedral, destroying the spire and much of the roof. Following an unprecedented international restoration effort, Notre-Dame has been restored and reopened to visitors, standing once again as a beacon of faith, art, and human achievement.
